Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a vibrant and heartfelt welcome from the Indian diaspora upon his arrival in Brazil, the fourth stop in his ongoing five-nation tour. The highlight of the reception was a traditional dance performance themed on Operation Sindoor, showcasing solidarity with India’s national security efforts.

Operation Sindoor, launched in response to a deadly terrorist attack on civilians and tourists in Pahalgam in April 2025, was India’s strategic and calibrated military operation targeting terrorist infrastructure without crossing international boundaries. The diaspora’s performance aimed to honour the operation and its significance in safeguarding innocent lives.

Alongside the dance tribute, PM Modi also witnessed musical renditions of devotional songs, reflecting India’s cultural richness and the strong emotional bond shared by the diaspora abroad.

Sharing his thoughts on social media, the Prime Minister posted on X: “Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I will participate in the BRICS Summit and then head to its capital, Brasilia, for a State visit at the invitation of President Lula. Looking forward to a productive round of meetings and interactions during this visit.”

During his four-day visit to Brazil, PM Modi will participate in the 17th BRICS Leaders’ Summit (July 6–7) and is expected to engage in high-level discussions on global challenges including peace, climate change, multilateralism, AI governance, and public health.

Following the summit, the Prime Minister will travel to Brasilia for a State Visit where he will meet President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to discuss strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Brazil in areas such as defence, trade, agriculture, energy, and technology.

Brazil marks the penultimate stop in PM Modi’s July 2–9 international tour, which began in Ghana, followed by visits to Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and will conclude in Namibia, where the Prime Minister will also address the national parliament.
